Vergil & Ladies Night Campaign but Cheaply Made

    Posted: 30 Mar 2020 02:10 PM PDT

While it will be cool to have a wholly unique Vergil and Ladies Night campaign you guys seem to underestimate the process and price of game development. One of the most expensive process of game development are environments (all past DMC games had some degree of cutting corner ahem *backtracking* and while DMC5 had a bigger budget than those past games it too had some cost cutting measures).

So since an unique Vergil and Trish/Lady campaign is pretty unlikely I propose what about a campaign that remixes the assets of the main campaign? Like new levels made out of the old levels and the story actually sets this up perfectly. Dante and Vergil head into hell to cut the down the Qliphoth so we can easily have the Qliphoth levels or new levels made from those assets. Lady and Trish "job" they got at the end could be to clean up whatever remaining demons in RedGrave City so they get the RedGrave missions (but the Qliphoth and its roots are gone). Can easily make up to 10 missions with both sides. Some Vergil missions gives you the option to play as Dante and for Lady and Trish most of their missions can be shared and co-op. Also for the Lady and Trish campaign their prologue/tutorial mission can be Mission 10/the Prologue mission that is a flashback to their fight with Urizen.

Now as for new enemies and bosses. Well both campaigns will of course use old enemies from the main campaign. With a few new ones sort of. I mean Capcom left out Hell Plytomea for some reason might as well include it now am I right? I suggest Shadow as an enemy type since there were in DMC1 and are established as a race of demons (unless Dante killed them all already). Shadow can be tweaked a bit to be more fun to fight though imo if its going to be a recurring enemy type.

Another enemy type that would be quick, easy, and cheap to implement would be the Plasma bats from DMC1. They can easily just re-design a Hellbat and give it some of Griffon's moves and its form copying gimmick would basically just taking the characters and copying a small piece of their movesets or if they really want to cut corners just only have the Bats take the form of Dante. Maybe Vergil too and Trish since she would most likely play really close to Dante or have a lot of his moves). They can also easily have more variations of the Empusa enemy types since they're based off of ants like say an explosive fiery Empusa or one that shoots projectiles (Bullet Empusa).

And now bosses. This one is tricky since well all of the bosses from the main campaign are all dead expect for Vergil. So why not fight Cerberus not King Cerberus but 2 Cerberus. Fire and lightning Cerberus. We fought Ice Cerberus in DMC3 so for their campaign one of 2 other Cerberus shows up for either one and upon defeat becomes a Devil Arm for Trish/Vergil. The fire Cerberus is mainly the bo staff and the lightning Cerberus is the Sanketsu both with expanded movesets than what Dante displayed with both weapons that utilizes their own mechanics. I personally think Vergil should get lightning and Trish fire because lets say Trish gets Alastor or some new lightning themed sword (like something like Cavaliere's sword) as well as Cavaliere Trish would be too lightning centric and could use a fire themed weapon to add some variety and likewise if Vergil most likely uses Balrog he would already have a fire themed weapon so why not give him lightning to mix things up. Also a bo staff is a polearm which fits Trish pretty well especially with all the Bayon...I mean pole dancing inspired moveset you can give to Trish. And designing both doggos would be easy just take the lightning and fire heads of King Cerberus respectively (make some tweaks and adjustments) and replicate it 3 times for a body each. Make some tweaks and adjustments and make the doggos a bit smaller than King Cerberus with some visual differences (like a more pronounced fire mane for fire Cerberus). Their boss movesets can just be the lightning and fire movesets from King Cerberus but with some more attacks.

And speaking of Balrog he can be a boss in Vergil's campaign. Not to sound like a dead horse but it has been established before that Balrog is planning to return for his rematch with Dante so have him fight Vergil instead and he can be a mix of Goliath and Urizen 3 with some new tricks too. On their way to cut down the Qliphoth they can encounter the Qliphoth core which can easily be a super cluster (basically the first real boss in the main campaign) in an Arkham styled co-op (for real this time) take down. Another boss concept I have are the souls of all the victims of the Qliphoth converge to form some bloody hell beast (like Legion or Envy's true form FMA Brotherhood) that Vergil must confront and he begins to feel guilty about the victims he is responsible for (fixes that one problem in the story right Capcom). And lastly Vergil must face a dark side of his past either a copy or recreation of Urizen, a dark doppelganger of himself, or Nelo Angelo (pretty much a fusion of Proto Angelo (but faster) and Cavaliere Angelo with Vergil's summoned swords but with new formations or the old SS formations from the Nelo Angelo fight from DMC1, I like those way more actually).

Also I've hear a lot of people saying something about a Nero boss fight. That can definitely work. If its the same fight from Mission 20 then Nero would be missing his Devil Breakers so it would be just Red Queen, Blue Rose, and his Devil Bringer plus DT. The only issue is his Snatch. If that is the case Vergil's campaign would have to start from his resurrection. His first mission would be a tutorial mission where he cutting his way to the top of the Qliphoth or just slaying some demons to get the rust off to prepare for his fight with Dante. The next mission would have to be a Dante boss fight and where we run into a problem of also having to design a Dante boss fight. Likewise they could pull a DMC4 and just make Dante a player character with a AI controller (would be pretty cheap to implement actually) but a lot of people didn't like that in DMC4 and it might be even harder now since he has a much larger moveset unless they limit his boss kit to a select few tools like DSD, Ebony and Ivory, SDT (and its moves), and Kalina Ann 2 (or Double Kalina Ann). This issue also persists with Nero but not as tough as Dante. Although if Vergil is as broken as he is in DMC4SE it probably shouldn't be much of a problem. Then we get the Nero boss mission and after that we get more Qliphoth missions and at the end Dante and Vergil have another boss rematch and Dante has more of his tools this time (so Coyote A, Double Kalina Ann, all 4 Styles, Cavaliere, Dr. Faust, and maybe King Cerberus but no Balrog since Vergil has it at this time according to the story) or we can choose Dante instead and fight a Vergil who has more tricks up his sleeves now (or just uses Balrog like he uses Beowulf in his Vergil 2 fight in DMC3). Alternatively in Mission 20 of the main campaign we get the option to pick Vergil and fight Nero which unlocks an alternative cutscene where Vergil wins but decides to help out anyway....not much of a difference I know.

Another boss Vergil and Dante can fight are a pack a Nidhoggs. I mean we are constantly taking its eggs and placing it in parts of the Qliphoth so lets say these hatchlings quickly matured to at least the flower form and Vergil and Dante must fight a bunch of them.

As for other bosses in Trish and Ladies campaign...lets just bring back Malphas (say she never actually died and that was all an illusion) and with that her the infernal illusions (the copy bosses V fight in Mission 14 and this time bring in Elder Geryon Knight and as an infernal illusion) but stronger. She could've amass another Gilgamesh and at the end both Lady and Trish fight her (maybe some banter between her and Trish about Mundus) killing her for real this time.

And lastly cutscenes. Cutscenes are also pretty expensive (I mean look at DmC Vergil DLC most of the campaign uses barely animated images and Bayonetta cuts a ton of corners in its cutscenes with still images) but now that characters talk during gameplay we may not need as many cutscenes to effectively tell a story. Lady and Trish can get by with an opening cutscene that establishes the conflict (oh demons are roaming RedGrave City so wipe them out and showcasing their new weapons), a middle cutscene maybe (to establish Malphas is actually alive and behind all of this), and an ending cutscene (Malphas has been killed and the job is done). Vergil on the other hand will need quite a bit of cutscenes. The first few missions will probably reuse cutscenes from the main campaign but slightly altered from Vergil's perspective. However after that since Vergil's story might have more moving parts it would require more cutscenes (and MGR DLC didn't cheap out in cutscenes neither should the best selling DMC game).

And that is it really. It sounds a bit too expensive in certain areas (its honestly the Dante and Nero boss fights I can see too costly to fit in and get it right) but its honestly the cheapest (and most possible) alternative we have to a special campaign for those 3 that is more than what we got before and even this is woefully optimistic. I'm not trying to get people's hopes up I'm just sharing how a Vergil and Ladies Night DLC campaign can be cheaply made and still please the fans. I only hope Capcom has similar sentiments and don't think we only care for the character's moveset.

But likewise any content for those 3 would be fine in my books just not 100% satisfactory if lazily done like in DMC3SE and DMC4SE.

I was talking to a friend about some of our favorite dmc taunts, when rainbow was mentioned I thought what if while dt Nero would flip off the demon and land on his feet. Maybe the use of his bringer arms/wings could be used to allow this to happen
