Vergil in DMC 3 is so fun to play!

    Posted: 16 Mar 2020 06:43 PM PDT

It took me awhile to get the hang of him, but once it clicked he became my favorite character to play. All his different abilities just work really well together to create this really unique playstyle.

In brief, almost all his force edge and Yamamoto combos end with him sheathing his sword, and if you let him complete the motion, instead of canceling by moving or dashing or dodging then it acts as a taunt but doesn't draw aggro. So it increases style and DT meter. MLS

As a side note, many of them have a period near the end where you are vulnerable, sheathing the sword for a powerful strike.

At the same time, you can summon his sword projectiles while doing anything else and it won't interrupt whatever you are doing.

This means that during the every combo has a window before and after the final strike (and sometimes other parts of the combos) where you can release a barrage of summoned swords to build style, DT and to cause a bunch of damage.

Also it just looks sick as fuck when you hit someone with a strike and then stylishly sheathe your sword while ghosts swords appear and skewer them

And then all this builds together to give you a ton of DT, so you are almost always in DT

Random thought during warm-up of bloody palace with V (mod related)

How do I learn to play Dante?

    Posted: 16 Mar 2020 05:34 PM PDT

So far, I've used general "algorithms" for playing and practicing V and Nero.

    • V: hold down melee and ranged attack buttons. Release them when you hear the sound cue for those giant AOE attacks. Throw out a royal fork every once in a while (it's also AOE and does decent damage, so that's a bonus).
    • Nero: use jump cancels and snatch to stay off the ground as much as possible while juggling enemies. Remember to rev the sword and cancel knockbacks with bringer knuckle. Throw out a devil breaker attack every once in a while to keep things interesting.
    • Dante: no clue

Using Nero's algorithm with Dante doesn't work as well because Dante doesn't have anything like Snatch for bringing enemies into the air and keeping them there. It's hard to remember to change styles/weapons as necessary, or even use them to their full potential. What strategies should I use as Dante?

Also, when practicing with Dante, should I "main" one or two weapons/styles so that I understand how to use them to their full potential?

    Watch out Trish!

Just had a random thought on DMCV

    Posted: 16 Mar 2020 10:44 AM PDT

Dante has just about defeated all the fathers of the characters he is associated with throughout the game (except for V/Vergil):

    Nero's father: Vergil (DMC, DMC3)
    Nico's father: Agnus (DMC4)
    Lady's father: Arkham (DMC3)
    Trish's father: Mundus (DMC)

Sorry if this was said before, just thought of it randomly and figured it was a little fun detail to share!

Devil Trigger can help you time yourself when washing hands for at least 20 seconds

    Posted: 16 Mar 2020 12:17 PM PDT

Timed it on my phone and the first verse of the main song for DMC5, Devil Trigger, lasts about 23 seconds. It certainly beats singing happy birthday twice! I'm sure there's other parts of DMC songs that can be used for this

Washing your hands properly for at least 20 seconds is important for properly cleaning your hands and preventing the spread of pathogens, including COVID-19 (aka the coronavirus)

Be safe, y'all. Ditch parties and public places like Dante dodged Patty's 18th. If you're not cooking, order carry-out/to-go. All that good safety stuff? Do it!

Meanwhile, I'll be over here still praying for the day we see Vergil or Ladies' Night DLC, or DMC5 characters/iterations in a fighting game, or anything at all. Doom Eternal will sate my demonslaying needs, but not for long...
