    Scrapped DMC Ideas

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 01:50 PM PDT

So looking back into concept art and interviews I've come across some interesting ideas that the devs had that were ultimately scrapped and not put into the final product for whatever reason. However, over time ideas that were scrapped in past games made their way over to the recent games like Malphas, Cavaliere, Sin DT, Playable Lady, and Nero's DT (kinda). So there is a precedent of scrapped ideas making in back into a future title. Here are list of a couple scrapped ideas I found.

    1. Vergil's DT in DMC5. They went through the effort of doing concept art for it but didn't model it into the game.
    2. Pandora Mech. Itsuno and co. had the idea to have Pandora transform into a mech as apart of its moveset but couldn't figure out a way to do it at the time or was scrapped due to rushed development.
    3. Vergil's Daughter Angelo. Lead Concept Artist Daigo had an idea of Vergil having a daughter who was meant to represent his humanity but that idea was dropped in favor of V. Which is why there is a concept art piece of a female V.
    4. Ice Skates and Saxophone weapon. They had an idea of giving Dante ice skates and saxophone as a weapon in DMC5. The issue now is Bayonetta already did those weapons but its not like Bayonetta has a trademark on saxophone and ice skates lol. I grouped these together to save space.
    5. Lucifer (and maybe Pandora) as a boss fight. You can't convince me otherwise DMC4 had a Lucifer boss planned or considered at some point. Pandora is an artificially made weapon so it doesn't need a boss fight (although Artemis got one) but in DMC4 novel Lucifer is actually a demon Dante slained and turned into a Devil Arm. They can bring him back as a boss and further improve upon on it as a weapon since Lucifer felt very lacking (unless you were a pro).
    6. Nero boss fight. Originally was considered for DMC5SE but the devs admitted they didn't have enough time to make it the best it can be so they scrapped it.
    7. Balrog boss fight. Originally had one planned but as they developed the game concept further it was dropped and a lot of the elements of the Balrog fight most likely went into Urizen 3.
    8. Character Creator/Customer Devil Hunters. A bit iffy on the details of this but Daigo also had an idea of a character creator where you can create your own custom devil hunter. This apparently was very early into development before the final plot was realized and was dropped because that wasn't the direction Itsuno wanted to go.
    9. Trish's Demon form. Not too sure on this one but Kamiya said that Trish had a demon form but it wasn't put in the game. No concept art or anything just words from the old director that he made years after he worked on DMC1.
    10. Fully Functioning Co-Op/Multiplayer. Probably didn't make it into the game due to hardware limitations for the PS4 and XboxOne at the time. That I understand but it was a missed opportunity to not incorporate it into DMC5SE.
    11. Divergent Mode (play any mission with any character). This was literally in the TGA trailer where it showed Dante in Mission 1 (that is a Nero mission). Did Capcom think to themselves "Woah that would make our game too fun and perfect for the fans. Can't have that now can we? Ctrl+X. Zoink!"

I was going to make a poll but the amount of ideas exceeded the poll limit which is lame lol. So just pick which scrapped idea you want to see return the most? Which one you don't actually care for or not want to actually see?

As well as mention any other scrapped idea that I may have missed.

What exactly causes enemies to DT in DMD mode in DMC3?

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 03:43 PM PDT

At first I thought it was just time but I noticed that a bunch of enemies tend to DT when I kill anything, so I've started weakening a bunch of enemies before I kill them. It seems very inconsistent. What are the underlying rules?

The True Ability of Rebellion (Theory)

The True Ability of Rebellion (Theory)

Rebellion a magical sword created by Sparda and awarded as a keepsake from Dante's father. Rebellion is the physical manifestation of Dante's power and his signature sword.

Rebellion in all its appearances has proven to be a powerful sword. It is sharp enough to pierce the surface of "El Salvador," an artificial demon, powered by the power of the Sparda sword. It has withstood direct blows from the blade of Yamato, a katana that says its legend "can cut even the darkness", demonstrating incredible resistance, even demonstrating a possible display of indestructibility.

These two characteristics suggest that it is a sword that stands out physically, an unbreakable weapon which requires great physical strength to be wielded, implying that this sword was intended for Dante. But… If this is the case, then there are other Rebellion abilities that don't match this description. Being these:

Rebellion when it touches Dante's blood it goes to its awake form (Whose only difference is that the demon skull has its mouth open, implying that it is a scream)

And that in the last game when Dante is nailed to Rebellion it merges with Dante along with Sparda, creating the "Devil Sword Dante" and the "Sin Devil Trigger" the true form of Dante.

These last 2 abilities imply that it is not only an almost indestructible sword, but also that it has a different power to something physical.

But what if I told you that the rebellion ability has to do with something a little more like how copper works with electricity, that is, the true ability of Rebellion is to absorb and be a conductor of energy.

    Proofs:

    - Rebellion I resist Yamato's impact and not Urizen's:

As I had mentioned in advance, Rebellion has crossed blows with Yamato a sword that can cut even the intangible, but this has a reason and that is that in Devil May Cry 5 in the information of Vergil's Devil Trigger, Nico implies that the true form Yamato is energy, the Katana being the physical manifestation of its power, therefore, in combat with Vergil Rebellion it never broke because it was really absorbing Yamato's power. Also explaining why Dante beat Vergil despite the power deficiency.

And in Urizen's case the blow was a direct punch without power, just brute force

    - The Stabs of Rebellion:

What all those who crossed Dante with Rebellion have in common, exactly they were demons, therefore, by wanting to kill him with their own sword, the only thing they were doing was giving Dante more power (Clarification: It is assumed that in the anime he was crossed by Sid, but I did not find the fragment and ah Dante I do not count it because it is a separate case)

    - Absorbed Sparda:

Simple to explain, Sparda is the manifestation of Sparda's power, which caused the rebellion to absorb her and merge with Dante, thus giving the creation of the "Devil Sword Dante"

    - Conclution:

Rebellion to Absorb and be a conductor of demonic energy, apart from seeing in a different way and understanding the story better, doubts are also resolved, such as why it broke, because Dante beat Vergil in Devil May Cry 3 despite the imbalance of power and why Dante gains a lot of power as the series progresses.

    How "Old" is Vergil?

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 09:11 AM PDT

I know that Vergil is Dante's twin brother, so he should be the same age as him. (Forty-ish.) But in DMC 5 he looks a lot younger. I get that he's led an unusual life cycle, but that just makes things more confusing. To my Knowledge he and Dante were 19 in DMC 3, so that's the age he was trapped in hell at, but he's definitely older than that in 5. We don't know when he got turned into an Angelo; but we do know that he only broke free of that form after being defeated by Dante in DMC 1. But he's not really fully himself until 5, years later. So; how old is he actually? Was he aging at a normal rate as an Angelo? did he only start aging once the spell was broken?
