Did Vergil know he had a son the entire time? Posted: 20 Mar 2020 02:50 PM PDT I know, I know, the immediate response is "of course not" but... Hear me out. During the battle atop the Qliphot, when Dante talks about him tearing off his own son's arm, he never expresses shock that he HAS a son, just that, one, it has nothing to do with their fight and, two, that he's surprised that Nero is said son. It raises some questions on just what Vergil was up to prior to DMC 3 and the nature of both Nero's mother and his relationship to her. I know there's a somewhat sizable group that assume that she's just a whore like the orphanage assumed, but... I dunno, that always rings hollow to me, especially when you think about what kind of person Vergil is. Vergil is driven, motivated and always working towards gaining power. This combined with his very straight-laced, straight edged attitude makes it seem bizarre, even laughable, that he would even waste his time with such a dalliance just for the sake of physical pleasure. It just doesn't really fit with the rest of his character and aesthetic, and, frankly, it's also a narratively boring answer. I'm not going to pretend he was some devoted husband or anything, because obviously his actions and statements regarding Arkham and Lady's relationship don't make a whole lot of sense with that in midn, but it would add greater depth to one of his most iconic quotes. "Without strength, you cannot protect anything. Not even yourself." The line has the obvious implication that his powerseeking is to gain the power to protect himself, like he couldn't during the attack from Mundus, but... it still implies he's wanting to protect something MORE than just himself. Now, most people assume that he's talking about regretting not being able to save his mother.... but I don't buy that. Even without DMC V's implied abandonment issues, his actions don't really make sense with that, as you'd think he'd try to take on some form of guardian role in atonement or something if that was the case, rather than abandoning humanity for being weak and worthless in his eyes... but... if he knew he had a child... what are the odds that he'd desire the power to do for them what his parents couldn't for him? Again, he may mock Arkham's 'pesky fatherly love,' but... it's ARKHAM, remember? You know, guy who murdered his wife for power and literally worships evil? Yeah, I wouldn't necessarily trust anything Vergil says while mocking him, especially when he admits that he just no longer has a use for him... I don't know, I don't really have a definitive 'theory' or anything like that, and fully admit that this would require some significant retconning, but... I feel like there's something here. A hook, or at least a thread. [link] [comments]

Posted: 20 Mar 2020 04:53 AM PDT Who would watch a sitcom with our 3 most favourite, male devil hunters in the lead? I'd think it would be hilarious to see some dad moments with Vergil and Nero. [link] [comments]

Is dmc1 supposed to be THIS hard? Posted: 20 Mar 2020 07:13 AM PDT I recently got my hands on dmc hd collection for pc and I'm having a really hard time with it. Ether I suck or the game is too damn hard. It took me 8 tries to kill the spider boss, and 5 tries just to kill that shadow monster that spawns after you break the lion statue in the next mission. I'm also having a real hard time understanding rolling mechanics. Sometimes instead of rolling Dante just jumps in the air and ends up getting hit (referring to the fireballs the spider boss shoots). Was the game this hard for everyone or am I just do bad at it? [link] [comments]
