Over the last two days, I gathered information about what happened to my corrupted Dante save file. I wanted to be sure about my information, but now I am all but certain that this is an easily triggered data corruption bug.

As for the bug itself, if you have seen any DMC3 "Dante Tpose" videos, then you have the basic idea of what happens to the save. Other signs are an equip menu with the text "Ebony and Ivory" with the image of Agni and Rudra. Going to guns crashes the game. Action has a maxed out Rebellion (I didn't have airhike, so that might be a side effect). Guns has a lv.1 E and I. The mission selection can potentially have a mission after 20, it's 15. This corruption seems to be permanent.

From what I know, triggering this corruption is easy. Play the Vergil campaign (I don't know the exact parameters, but some said just a few missions.), immediately load a freestyle Dante file and viola, your save is wrecked.

My hypothesis on why this occurs is that when you load the Vergil file, the game goes into a "classic" mode. Once the game goes to the file select screen and a freestyle Dante file is selected, it will try to load that file in "classic" mode and corrupt the data. With this hypothesis in mind, a classic Dante file could also corrupt a freestyle Dante file, but this is unknown.

What you can do to prevent or minimize this problem is simple. Make a backup file for Dante. It only affects the selected Dante file AFAIK. To prevent this from happening, after playing Vergil, close the application. This will hopefully prevent data corruption.

What we need to do is contact Capcom ASAP. Explain the bug, use any video about this bug you find for replication purposes, and send the report.

TLDR: There's a permanent corruption bug that kills freestyle Dante files. Don't load up a Dante file immediately after playing Vergil. Close the application, then select Dante. MAKE A BACKUP FILE.
