There are a lot of things I like about DMC2

    Posted: 21 Feb 2020 04:56 PM PST

I just want to preface this by saying I'm not here to start arguments with anyone, I fully understand that DMC2 is an extremely flawed game that deserves a lot of it's criticisms, but I feel like its healthy to try to find positives even in the most tiresome of situations. That said, I actually do enjoy DMC2 for a variety of reasons that I don't think are talked about enough.

    1: The rolling mechanics.

I feel like I'm the only one who loves the dodge animation. The amount of times I just spam the dodge button and trick roll around the map is absolutely mindboggling. I love the feel of it and how Dante does a crazy jedi flip when he dodges.

    2: The satanic imagery.

Devil May Cry's entire existence is around fighting demons but the main series of games always had their own style when it came to demon design in stuff. It can be said that DMC2 is less original, but I love the more satanic imagery reminiscent of games like Doom. Things like the caged skeletons ala Catholic Inquisition, and the Satanic Goat monsters that teleport using pentagrams. I also like how a lot of the enemies have names that are in Latin, which gives it a much more authentic Christian devilry feel.

    3: Rebellion

This was the first DMC to have Dante's iconic weapon Rebellion and I can't fault it for that.

    4: Dante's design

I love Dante's more Batman-esque design and his animations are really nice. I like the way his coat smoothly moves when you do and the way his legs move much more realistically than other games. Not exactly practical in a video game but I liked it.

    5: That mothertrucking soundtrack

This one might be a bit contentious, but DMC2's soundtrack was my absolute favorite OST of the entire series (yes even more than 5). The first time I played DMC2 and got into my first battle, I could literally hear my adrenaline pumping as I heard the amazing guitar riffing from Tetsuya Shibata's amazing OST. The absolute Metal mayhem in the soundtrack leaves me headbanging every time I play. I can't gush about it enough.

    6: Bolverk

Do you guys have a video game boss battle so personal that you begin to grow a sort of rivalry with the boss? That is me and Bolverk. The first time I played DMC2 I breezed through 90% of the beginning game, I thought the game was a cakewalk until I met Bolverk. The first fight I died and thought it was fluke. Then when I finally had to fight him for real (boss healthbar and all), he straight impaled me into oblivion. IDK what happened but right then and there Bolverk became a member of my personal shitlist. It took me longer to beat him than it did to beat the entire overall game, but once I beat him, I knew I wasn't done with him just yet. I challenged him over and over again and started keeping a win/loss tally between me and Bolverk (current score is me-27 Bolverk-112 don't laugh). it got to a point where I made a specific save right before his first major fight so I could challenge him over and over again. I consider him my absolute video game arch-nemesis and I can't really explain why.

    7: Vie de Marli

I don't think anybody isn't aware that Vie de Marli is heavily inspired by France. While I agree that the levels are too open and obnoxious, I do enjoy the overall aesthetic. The small village areas are reminiscent of small French towns like Gevaudan, and the big open cities seem very stylistically similar to Marseille and Paris. I really do like the style of the levels, even if I don't exactly like the levels themselves.

8: Multiple different swords to choose from

Confession time, I don't really use the side weapons in most DMC games. Unless they're swords I am not usually interested in using them. One thing I love about the original DMC was that I could choose between Force Edge, Alastor, and Sparda. And with DMC2 I could change my sword based on how I wanted to fight enemies (more damage less reach vs more reach less damage). In other games like 3, 4, and 5, I mostly just stick to Rebellion. I get that the variety of weapons is what makes DMC games fun for a lot of people, but, if they do make a DMC6, I hope they add more than one sword along with the more outlandish weapons.

    9: The story (somewhat)

I get that the storyline is very boring in some parts , but I enjoy it's less fantastical plot (billionaire dude makes deal with Satan to take control of the world, all the while illegally buying up the natives land and using it to further his cutthroat business). It's not perfect, but I kinda enjoy it.

10: The "Here's your crown" scene

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I7Y8WhHG6O0 I just... I love this scene. Yeah the character of Dante was screwed in this game but by God this was such a badass moment.

Are there any aspects of DMC2 you enjoy? If so feel free to say so, if not, say that too lmao. As I said, I'm not here to debate people or say DMC2 is some underrated masterpiece or anything like that. I just want to describe a lot of the things I loved about DMC2 and to see if I was alone in these feelings or not.

Does the Mega Buster slide have more I-frames than the normal dodge roll?

    Posted: 21 Feb 2020 02:25 PM PST

The MB slide travels further than the normal dodge roll but I don't know how to go about testing if that means more I-frames too. I assume it does, can anyone confirm or deny it for me?

What's this About Donte Being Stronger than Dante?

    Posted: 21 Feb 2020 07:28 PM PST

So I saw a comment on here saying that there's a theory surrounding the two universe's Dantes and their power in relation to eachother, I don't think I get it really? i don't even know how you'd compare their power levels as both universes function on entirely different rulesets surrounding their demons.

This isn't a DmC hate-post by the way.

I attempted the 3 player Doppleganger co op bloody palace mode.

    Posted: 21 Feb 2020 09:42 AM PST

The third controller won't connect to the switch while in Co Op. It does it just fine in solo and the co op thing still works, it just doesn't work because it disconnects my third controller as soon as I boot up the game and launch Co Op. IF anyone has had success like with Super SParda let me know.

    All controllers were wireless.

I'm curious if this idea would work or if it'll forever have this problem.

You guys recommend any control layout that suits better for Dante's gameplay? That styles mechanic it's just to difficult for me
