Ever wonder how many appearances your favourite weapon makes in cutscenes? Well I counted all of them.

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 06:40 AM PST

Yep, as the title says, I have made a full accounting of all the cutscene appearances of the all the weapons in the devil may cry series. Why you may ask? Well frankly because completely useless data holds a special place in my heart and it generates a bunch of DMC trivia to rattle off whenever another neckbeard challenges your gamer credentials. Said trivia can be found at the bottom of the post.

Anyways, this list does include the non canon DMC4 special edition stuff, though the numbers there are denoted as such. However it doesn't count weapon appearances involving alternate skins, weapons used by generic mobs or weapons received out of sequence. Dante didn't have the sword Sparda at the start of 1, so it doesn't get credit for any swappable sword scenes until after it was picked up, etc etc.

    ////Random Trivia////

(Rebel without a cause - Rebellion shows up the most across the series and also has the most appearances in a single game.)

(Superior Human Engineering - If you only count the mainline series, the Red Queen has the most appearances in a single game at 52, followed by V's Cane at 50 and then Nero's Devil Breakers at 46. Rebellion has 40.)

(Shocking twist - Due to the fact that Dante leaves Sparda behind near the end of DMC1, Alastor actually has more solo cutscene appearances than the Force Edge.)

(White supremacy - Ivory has racked up 7 boss kills throughout the series, compared to Ebony's 2 -both of which involved Ivory-. Ivory also shows up 12 more times than Ebony. Canonically it's possibly because it's mad BM to finish someone off with the gun that uses your sword hand, but realistically it's 'cause Ivory contrasts better against Dante's design.)

(Matching piercings - Dante threatens Jesters nose twice, once with Ivory, then much later with Ebony.)

(Doubly Disarmed - When Nero is first defeated by Urizen he doesn't have the Red Queen on his person. As V forces Nero to leave Griffin can be seen carrying it out of the arena.)

(Broken timeline - In the final cutscene of DMC1, Dante can be seen to have the Force Edge on his back despite Trish having the Sword Sparda in the same frame.)

(Cold Shoulder - Cavaliere and Cerberus are the only non-sword based weapons that Dante ever uses in cutscenes after getting them in the main series.)

(Firearms expert? - Contrary to his mainline version, reboot Vergil not only knows how to wield guns, but even gives Dante spare ones he has on 2 separate occasions)

(Sleep Paralysis - Nightmare never attacks an enemy in any of his cutscenes.)

(Conundrums - Dante find's a grenade gun on the skeleton of a monk, a futuristic sniper rifle in an ancient demon temple and Kalina Ann miles away from where lady lost it.)

(Invisible pockets - Only the Dmc3 design of Dante actually shows the holsters for Ebony and Ivory, despite DmC featuring a very obvious holstering animation.)

(Magic Trick - Nero defeats malphas with no sign of the red queen anywhere, but once he shoots her it re-appears on his back.)

(Rude response - The reboot cutscene which cements rebellions spot over the Red Queen as the most shown weapon in any single game is the Shakespearean "Fuck You" scene.)

(Rigidity - DMC2 only features the base equipment in it's cutscenes, despite the new weapons being straight replacements for Dantes rebellion or Lucia's Cutlasser's.)

(Poor Aim - Lady fires the Kalina-Ann 6 times during DMC3 and only hits her intended target twice. The targets she hit were A) the most basic enemy in the game and B) the ground at point blank range.)

(Like father like son - Sparda had a twin pair of handguns named Luce and Ombra, similar to Dante's Ebony and Ivory. They can be used in DMC1 while playing as the legendary dark knight, in 2 they are equipable and in 4 are used by Trish.)

(Birds of a feather, Break together - The Rebellion and the Yamato are the only 2 devil arms to be broken in any of the games.)

(Deep Lore - Ladies motorcycle is named Esmeralda, which is likely a reference to a Japanese manga called Cobra, in which the titular Cobra meets a character named Esmeralda but instead refers to her as "Lady Android")

(Dual Wielding - When Nero stops Dante and Vergil from clashing with each other, he grabs both of their weapons by their blades with his winglike devil arms.)

(Boys who cried wulf - Since the weapons in DMC2 aren't devil arms, Beowulf and Balrog are the only melee devil arms that are never shown in cutscene to be used by Dante.)

Mechanical Problem with a DMC Remake and how to fix that.

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 05:50 PM PST

Many users in this community , me included , posted how much we want a DMC6 and remakes , as we love this franchise and want to see the previuos games with the same love we saw DMC5 had.

But there is an inherent problem with a DMC remake: unlike RE , we see certain lore-based evolutions in Dante's mechanics which would be taken away if a previous game receive a remake , an example would be DSD's Sword Formation or even SDT.

That been said , facsimiles could had been made for DMC1R , DMC2R and DMC3R. That would be my proposal:

DMC1R -> DSS could be used as an SDT weapon , in this case , Dante would take Sparda Form as an SDT , with a moveset based in the original DMC1 (energy spheres , laser sword and dragon). While DSS is equipped , when Dante uses DT , it augments such DT and weapons in accordance to whatever style you use.

DMC2R -> Majin is pretty much an SDT , but it would be locked until you take all the amulets. It would make a return of the amulet system in a small way , as Dante would "level up" , which would enable augmentations to his styles while in DT. Futhermore , it would had an extra style called "arcanist" or something like that , in which one of the movesets would enable those augmentations in base form.

DMC3R -> it would had a "desperation trigger" in which Dante would tap in all of his devil arms and styles at the same time. His augmentation in this game would be tied to his weapons , rather than style , as they would give more agility , power and whatnot , just like in the actual DMC3 , merely more "visible" , as it was proactively activated by pressing a command per devil arm , which could stock if you use DT afterwards.

    What do you guys think?

DMC3 on Switch is Being Hyped Up a Lot

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 09:05 AM PST

So DMC3 is coming to Switch and Capcom seems VERY excited about it. It's the first game they've really updated and there's still 2 more announcements. What if we're getting a version with better shaders, or a complete graphical overhaul? Either that or it'll be the expansion of weapon and gun slots then something else.

What does everyone else think will be added?

Would you rather: DMC1 remake or DMC6?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 09:26 AM PST

With DMC5's success I don't think there's any question Capcom will do something again soon with the franchise.

Which begs the question, would you rather an old classic be revisited or the series keep continuing with a brand new entry?

Holy shit this games combos are insane

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 10:13 AM PST

So after having plenty of fun with this game ever since it came out and watching plenty of combo mads, I finally decided to go and actually practice how to use Dante more efficiently in The Void this morning and holy shit he's amazing.

He's honestly not that hard to master, just takes a little practice to get the basic gist of it and eventually get faster with style switching.

I've noticed that using the Faust Hat and using the move where he makes the red orbs flow around him helps the enemy stay close so that I can chain my combos better. Think of it like training wheels for now.

Only style I'm really struggling with is Royal Guard due to the timing, that alone is going to take even more practice. But just like everything else in life, you gotta start somewhere.

Honestly, I feel like I'm falling in love with the game again.

    Game restarting my PC?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 05:29 PM PST

No idea what the deal is here. About 5 times playing the game my computer will randomly restart. I'm still on the first mission with Nero after the prologue but I have no idea why this keeps happening. Any ideas?

Edit: It's DMC 5 in case there was any confusion.

Starting practicing on Vergil. I got the first phase mostly down i think. I just wish my reaction timing wasn’t so garbage though lol

    Discord link please!

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 09:26 AM PST

I remember there being a Discord where the upper DMC players would come together to fix DMC5 with community edition but I cant find any links. Does anyone have one by chance? Thank you!

Idea for what one of the next announcements will be

    Posted: 23 Jan 2020 09:14 AM PST

So as you are all probably aware, we're getting two more announcements before DMC3 releases on the switch.

Here it is if you want to see it

For January 29th or February 13th, I have a prediction for one of the announcements. It'll be the ability to have all of your weapons on you at once. Nothing too flashy but you can take every devil arm with you into combat. Similar to DMC5 and the upgrade (from beating SoS) where you can potentially hold up to 12 weapons on you. Matt Walker confirmed we're getting on the fly style switching (including quicksilver and doppelgänger after unlocking them) as per 4 and 5, so I have no doubt this would be in there as well. Anyway that's all. Still hoping for maybe some more DMC5 content but DMC3 is always a good time. If you haven't played it and have a switch, now is the perfect time to do so.

Hey I finally finished all games 1-5

    Posted: 22 Jan 2020 11:10 PM PST

Nothing too spectacular, just making a post to celebrate the end of my marathon. And if anyone was wondering my tier list is:

    1- DMC5

    2- DMC

    3- DMC3

    4-DMC4

    5-DMC2

This was just how I personally enjoyed them the most. Man this series is amazing.
