Devil May Cry 4 Lucifer scene comparison between English and Japanese.

    Posted: 06 Jan 2022 07:23 PM PST

FIRST I WHIP IT OUT! THEN I THRUST IT!

Some of the lines are also in the novel Deadly Fortune and he says them when he fights Berial xD

I wrote the lines from the Japanese subtitles as well, which are not word for word like what is heard in the dub because the subtitles are written in such way to convey the essential information, due to the fact that the game was dubbed in English first.

    ENGLISH JAPANESE (DUB) JAPANESE (SUB)
First I whip it out! Then I thrust it! イキり立ったモノを! 撃ち込む! コイツを! 突き刺す!

So, English has "it", subs have "this (thing here)" and the dub...oh boy xD
I mean, if you get what he was implying in the English dub, he was most likely referring to another kind of "sword" xD
イキり立った the verb イキる written like this in katakana would denote a slang and it translates as "to act cocky/to be full of oneself/be arrogant', and I found some phrases and well…I've seen some dialogue, seems like it's a common in hentai to call "it" that way xD
Oh Lord and this is just the first part of it, because it's actually the following line which caught my attention xD

    With great force! 激しいピストン 力をこめて

Try and copy and search that line from the dub and you will get porn sites XD
激しい would translate as "intense" or "violent", and ピストン is piston.
I think it's enough said xD

Every angle...It penetrates! 体位を変えて! ヒット! 角度を変え!刺す!

Yeah, so the subtitles say "Changing the angle!", but in the dub we have 体位 which can mean body posture but it also has the connotation of "sexual position".
Is everyone having fun so far? XD

Until...! With great strength...! からの! 激しいグラインド! さらに… もっと強く!

We have 激しい again (intense, violent, wild) and グラインド which is "grind", sooo intense grinding? :))
    MY GOD, DANTE!! =))

I... ram it in! In the end... We are all satisfied…And you are set free...! 最後の一突き!賢者タイムだ俺は君にささやく、終わったら帰りな ブチこんでやる! 最後に…絶頂を迎えた後 君は自由だ

I never heard of that thing mentioned in the Japanese dub so I was so surprised when I looked into the meaning, I was just so "wow", look what they came up with xD
I mean it didn't made sense to me at first glance even if I knew the words, but had no idea of other connotations xD
Very directly translated, his line in the dub says "And the final thrust! It's the time of wisemen" and, 賢者 (wiseman) タイム (time) this is a slang for post-coital clarity.

Oh my God the things I have learned from this audacious scene :))

What it says in the subtitles can be translated as "Finally...after reaching the climax, you are free."
俺は君にささやく、終わったら帰りな here in the dub he says "And I whisper to you, when it's over, go home"

(note here, because 終わったら can be interpreted in a few ways, it can also mean ""when you are done, go home" )

    最後に…絶頂を迎えた後 君は自由だ

The word that I bolded means "climax/orgasm", so the line translates "Finally... after you've climaxed, you're free."

Some of the lines, like I mentioned in the beginning are also in the DMC4 novel, however there is a difference. In the novel, Dante already had Lucifer and used it against Berial, while in the game he obtained the Devil Arm after he defeated him.

Dante says some of those lines while fighting him, the latter being like "why is he talking so much during a fight?" lol.

These are the ones from the novel, the first three match with the first three lines from the English dub:

    まずはこいつを……!
    突き刺す!
    真っ直ぐに! 強く!

This one however doesn't appear in the game and oh boy xD

    あんまりすぐにイくなよ?その方がこっちも楽しいからな.

So, that word which I bolded? When it's written like that in katakana, (although usually it's イク) there is an emphasis, sometimes to indicate that it might not be a general meaning which in this case 行く means "to go", "to leave" and given that Dante says a some stuff that you might hear in hentai and the way the word is written…that word…

It means "to cum", "to have an orgasm".
He was saying that to Berial and "he gave him a smirk", when Dante said that according to the novel xD Berial most likely had no idea what Dante was saying.

Like, he most likely meant to say "Don't leave/don't go too soon" but like I mentioned, writing that word in katakana was used very well.

So that line would translate something like "Don't leave too soon, okay? Cause it's also fun for me that way/That way I'll have more fun."

Replace the meanings "to go/leave" with the other ones xD

    Another line from the novel:
    時に大胆に……そして繊細に……!
    "Sometimes boldly....And sometimes delicately...!"

The last line is similar to the Japanese subs:
    後はただ絶頂を迎えるだけだ……そして自由になる

"All that's left to do is reach climax...and you will be free."
So, what do you think about this scene now? xD While I was searching for these lines (because I only managed to find them by writing what I could understand and found a site in Japanese, and a user referred to the whole speech as スタイリッシュヤリ捨て "Stylish smash and dash" :)) You can google for synonyms if you want.

Wiki also said that Reuben ad libbed the dialogue (though I can't confirm this since it didn't have a source), so if the English dub was made first and Toshiyuki Morikawa took it as an example, well with his expertise in voicing characters from BL works, he went all out with Dante XD

Which character of the series is your favorite? Can be both from the games and the anime.

wouldn't It Be Cool if Dante's theme in DMC6 had "Royal Gun Sword, tritritritritrickSword, royal Sword, Gugugugugun trick" in the translation Between Empty spaces where the Guitar and the words would be split apart? maybe a Remix of Forza Del Destino but with Higher, Longer notes
