Brand new player looking for direction Posted: 25 May 2021 07:05 PM PDT I've never played DMC before so this is a totally new series to me. I just bought the HD collection and DMC4 Special Edition. Is there any suggestions you guys might have for brand new players? No spoilers please and if it means anything I've beaten Ninja Gaiden 2 on Mentor. I want a challenge but not something that is going to totally crush me. [link] [comments]

My Review Of DMC 3 Right After Completing It Posted: 25 May 2021 05:57 PM PDT If you don't want to read the whole thing and just get my thoughts... Game's gud, like really enjoyable. This review isn't meant to be a super in-depth dive or anything like that, more or less talking about things that stood out to me and my experience. And I'm gonna be making comparisons to 5 because that's what I started with and people generally hold them as the 2 best in the franchise. For starters I played the HD collection on ps4, so yeah no style switching, but I'm sure that bumps up my enjoyment of the game's combat quite a bit. And I played on normal with turbo mode (Gold ver obviously). So I guess start with story... I really liked it, it's a great tale with interesting and memorable characters, and the prequel to DMC 1. I wouldn't say it's super intricate or layered with genius storytelling but the story is really fun to experience and watch unfold. Would I say it's better than 5? No. I think 3 does a fantastic job with introducing you immediately to the characters, their relationships, and getting the action going, but I think 5 builds upon this foundation and offers a more intricate story that goes into depth what their motivations are and who they decide to become. But obviously, no one would care about the story of 5, if 3's wasn't there. Something I really liked was the choreography and cutscenes in 3. I enjoyed them quite a bit more overall than 5's and the spectacle of watching the characters fight and their personality interacting with each other was awesome. Exploration was a thing I wasn't expecting too much of however I was pretty surprised to find loads more in 3 than in 5. I did quite like the exploration in the sense that it allows you to navigate the environment and all it has to offer, however I do prefer 5's more linear gameplay, getting you from fight to fight quicker. I think this mostly has to do with me not being so much a fan of solving puzzles, and not the game's fault. The puzzles that were there though, were pretty fun. I didn't experience any that got me super bored or frustrated, and most of them are, "find thing and put thing in slot to progress." Similar to 5's Nidhogg hatchling thingy, but much more embedded into the game's experience. All in all, wouldn't mind more exploration in future games. Now the thing that everyone is waiting for, the combat. The combat in this game is fucking RAW. For its time this shit was amazing, so many options, so many toys to play with, and such sick looking animations that add that bit of ssstyle to the game. I really like all the weapons in this game, the guns? Eh, I just stuck to ebony and ivory and the shotgun. Tried out the rest, but I only used them for certain secret missions or boss fights. All the combos and moves that are available to you are great and each weapon feels good to use. I used all the weapons a fair bit, but the beowulf and agni/rudra combo are my favorite. I do wish though that you could switch your weapons and style in the options menu. I'm fine with upgrades and items being locked to divinity statues, but it gets pretty annoying if you stumble upon a section of the game where you would really like to have air hike and trickster to get a blue orb, but oh no you have to backtrack to the statue to do so. Just kind of an inconvenience. I know the devs probably wanted it to fell like you had to pick the right tool for the job, but a lot of that just comes down to trial and error, which isn't fun on your first playthrough. Okay now to enemies and bosses. So some bosses and enemies are great, but ya got some stinkers sprinkled in there. For enemies, most are really great, I really enjoy them. But things like blood-goyles are kinda annoying. Dullahans and soul eaters, having to turn away from them and wait for them to move or appear is not good design in a game about performing sick combos. And the fallen... Fucking why? They move too fast for guns like Kalina Ann, or Spiral, can't effectively approach them because of their speed, and their sword's range is really large, they fly. Doesn't help that they swing that shit like a fucking propeller so no angle is safe to attack. And also they PHASE THROUGH WALLS? It's the same issue with soul eaters and dullahans except now, defeating them rests entirely on their decision to make themselves invincible or not. The only good thing about them is that at least I could run past most of them and not have to deal with their bullshit. Can't imagine dealing with them on higher difficulties. Phew, aight bosses now. Cerberus good, Agni/Rudra great, Beowulf reminds me heavily of Goliath in 5 so, great, and Lady and Vergil bosses are badass. Okay stinky time, Gigapede can giga eat my ass. Just kinda wait for him to appear and mash, but uh oh you fucked up a jump or he's out of reach guess I'll wait some more. Jester fights are meh, it's too easy to just not give a shit about what he's doing and kill him. Doppleganger is an insult to my intelligence, Geryon is, "Rather fight in 5" the boss, Nevan and Leviathan's Heart, idk if I was tired because I was playing late, but doing their missions and their fights was genuinely the one time I wasn't having fun. Leviathan is a chore to do, Nevan her fight was boring, but at least I got wacky woohoo guitar and some r34 material so whatever... And Arkham. Uhhh, I've heard people say Arkham sucks, and yeah he kinda does. But I beat him around my third try and it wasn't too bad for me at least. He is boring though, being purple Nickelodeon slime and having random shit attack you isn't very fun. Vergil again, is awesome all 3 of his fights. I do wish though that he was launchable like in 5. Just think having that would've introduced some variety but nonetheless he feels like Dante's equal if not even more powerful and that's all I can ask for. Music is awesome, Dante's battle theme is great (Better than subhuman), but it can drone on a little too long for my liking. Also, initially I didn't like Devils Never Cry, but in the context of this game, it has really grown on me. Not at the top of my list, but definitely one to remember. Final thoughts: This game is great, money well spent. These past couple days have been a blast playing it. I don't think it's as good as 5, however it gives me HUUUGE appreciation for what 5 achieves all thanks to 3. And as I complete the rest I think that appreciation will only grow. Any questions you'd like me to answer or additional thoughts you want me to share? Leave it in a comment and I'll try and respond. [link] [comments]
