    Unpopular Opinion: Dante absolutely deserved Nero’s backhand from the end of DMC 5 (DMC 5 ENDGAME SPOILERS)

    So, as everyone who's finished DMC 5 knows, Vergil is Nero's father. It's also generally accepted that Nero had a complex of sorts over his parentage and whatnot due to being picked on for it at the orphanage he grew up at. Dante knew basically from the beginning but hid his knowledge of Vergil's connection to Nero because Dante didn't want anyone other than himself getting involved in case Vergil returned.

    However, Dante had no real way of knowing if/when Vergil would return. So, even if it wasn't his preferred outcome, Dante was essentially prepared to lie through his teeth about Nero's lineage until one of them died, maybe not even then.

    Think about it this way; Dante knew that Nero had some serious baggage over the very nature of his existence and had every opportunity between DMC 4 and DMC 5 to tell Nero and save him a lot of anguish and pain, but was like "Oh, I'm not gonna tell you the answer to the question that's been burning within you essentially from the beginning because it might inconvenience me."

    And while an argument could be made that Dante was trying to protect Nero because Vergil was obviously so much more powerful than Nero at this point, but due to Dante repeatedly telling Nero "this is not your fight" in DMC 5, I really don't see that being the case.

    Also, Dante failed miserably in keeping Nero from getting involved. Just wanted to throw that out there.

    Just FYI, I do like Dante, but I think his decisions regarding Nero and Vergil were ineffective and at best manipulative, just straight-up selfish at worst.
