Looking back on DMC4, killing Credo was a mistake. Posted: 08 Jan 2021 11:13 AM PST The plotline that most people remember from the DMC series is the whole Dante vs Vergil dynamic, so, in DMC4, a rival battle was implemented for Nero as well in Credo. Most will agree this battle is easily one of the best in the series, with only Vergil in DMC3 and DMC5 as well as Dante in DMC5SE surpassing it. Credo was unique, as he was a regular human who gained the powers of a demon via exploiting the Angelo creation process, which was a far cooler idea than the cliche idea for Nero's rival being Dante and Lady's child, which honestly seems like a forced way to continue the plotline. As a playable character, it seems like the devs had thought him out to a degree. Just as characters like Vergil or Jetstream Sam have movesets in their boss battles that easily translate to a character moveset, so did Credo. His Angelo transformation could have easily substituted for a Devil Trigger as well, and his spear mechanic could have served as an alternative to Blue Rose just as Summoned Swords / Mirage Blades serve as a substitute for Ebony and Ivory. And... they kill him. His death in Dante and Trish's arms feels quite anticlimactic, and Nero's reaction feels contrived. The only time Nero genuinely feels like he was hurt by his death is when he reflects on it in DMC5 despite the solid albeit underdeveloped rival dynamic between them. It does seem like the reason he was not made playable in DMC4SE is simply because his story was underdeveloped, leaving him not as popular as Capcom likely hoped. And now, Credo is gone for good in the story, and we may never see him as a boss or as a playable character again. I know Sanctus was brought back to life using demonic shenanigans and you could argue Credo could do the same, but I doubt it'll happen. If Capcom does it, and makes it so the process "corrupts" him, then it would make an interesting idea for DMC6 if Nero is conflicted after realizing he cannot be saved from the corruption. TL;DR Credo was the Vergil to Nero's Dante, but was killed off meaninglessly. [link] [comments] | ||
