My biggest gripe with DMC 5: no difficulty options in The Void

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 03:31 PM PDT

Unless I've been missing something since 5 came out (if I have please correct me) it's a minor annoyance but seems like a massive oversight that there are no difficulty options in The Void.

It's not that big a deal but it's a huge pain in the ass to jump into practice, forgetting you last played on DMD. Leaving you with the options to practice against an enemy who will DT and be an annoyance when you just want to mess around with an unkillable dummy without super armor, or quit out and sit through multiple loading screens just to load up a stage on a different difficulty to set your practice mode difficulty.

5 SE or DMC 6 whichever we get next I really hope they fix this and add the option to set difficulty while in practice or at least let you change difficulty at the loadout screen for The Void. We've got options to swap out the enemy and our loadout from the menu so why can't we select the difficulty while we're at it?

DMC V - One particularly odd line in Mission 7

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 03:58 PM PDT

    Hi guys,

So I'm a little perplexed by a line here. I know the story in DMC is often silly and services the gameplay and coolness rather than coherence, but this one line bugs me. So at the end of Mission 7, we get this exchange between Nero and V:

V: No, I must seek out the devil sword Sparda.

Nero: What? Yeah, I don't think that's such a good idea, trust me.

V: You're not the only one who thinks so. But to win this fight, were going to need all the help we can get.

Nero: Not the only one? What the hell aren't you telling me?

The purpose of Nero's ending question here is obviously to put suspicion on V and hints that he is not telling us the full story. This is true! But from a writer's perspective, assuming the lines actually accomplish something overall, the actual meaning of exchange is incredibly strange. I assume when V says "You're not the only one who thinks so", he is referring to how Griffon said that using Sparda would be impossible for him in his current state. Yet from the perspective of the grander story, is it not significant that more than one person is casting doubt on V's ability to wield the Sparda (least of all Griffon). There are so many things to draw suspicion and mystery to V, why choose this irrelevant line (which is actually more of a misunderstanding) as one of those methods. If V literally turned to Nero and said "yean, Griffon doesn't think it is a good idea either", Nero would've been like "yeah, the chicken is right". It has no pay-off or relevance and the answer to "Not the only one?" does not matter. It doesn't matter that both Griffon and Nero think that V cannot use the Sparda. What matters is where V came from, why he is so knowledgeable about Urizen, how did he got his powers despite being human. Maybe it's a translation thing. But it just seems poorly written. That said, we do get properly intriguing writing at the end of Mission 11. Trish asks the right and intelligent question of who Urizen is (given that she had never having heard name which is strange because she is from the Underworld). Now that is decent writing.

If you guys have any thoughts or insights, it love to hear it. It leave me a bit confused. Is it just a moment of bad writing or bad translation?

Does using mods in DMC5 cause issues?

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 06:11 PM PDT

I wanted to install a skin mod or two for fan, miss Nero's alt costume from DMC4 and plan to look it up, but then I wondered if it causes issues with online elements and steam achievements. Also heard of people working on a playable Vergil mod that I'd love to try. Thanks in advance.

    Vergil

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 04:50 PM PDT

In DMC4, Vergil's JCE uses doppelgangers to cut everyone. But in 5, he uses rapid slashes and being Super fast if you look closely. When he's a boss, he has those moments when you Attack. He could be charging up like he does in JCE, which is why he can teleport so far away.

    DMC 5 crashes

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 02:32 PM PDT

So for a bit of context I got back into DMC 5 and started modding. Well while playing it kept crashing. Of course I searched and found the post about the performance fix. Well my problem with it is that no matter what I change in the .ini file, it goes back and soon as I start the game.

Anyone got any fixes? I'm looking to completing the game 100% and have fun, but this constant crashing gets in the way of both.

Was Sparda a spell-sword/mage type kind of character?

    Posted: 18 Aug 2020 06:33 PM PDT

Heard me out on that one, getting in consideration all of what we know about BugDude made me believe that he was a great mage.

First we have his skillset, summon swords as a very indirect way of battle, im assuming is a skillset of him because Vergil and dante were only able to do it after getting the Force Edge/Sparda, plus Vergil Summon swords are just a glassmodel of Force Edge, even the icon in the menu implies that Summon swords are getting summoned by force edge.

Second, he coudnt defeat Mundus, Dante wasnt abble to properly defeat too when he had his power + power of spardaa. Thats why he sealed the guy and used a strong spell to sell the portal to demon world. Also aplies to Argosax. After sealing the portl most of his demon juice was left behind in the force edge, so he had to deal with Argosax by more indirect ways, using artefacts to seal it too

Thirdy, his equipament. His swords have the power to cut everything, even concepts or identities, or bond things togheter, like his dumbass son and his power. Those arent regular powers and the series never showed anything siimilar

Fourth, demonic magic is a regular thing in DMC universe. V said he uses magic to reiforce his body right after being born in the manga Visions of V. Malphas says shes the strongest mage in the demon world in her midfight liners, and there is a bunch of demons in the game wich the codex states that they are like that duo to a obsession with magic.

All that saidmade me believe that aside from being a proper knight user of sword and karate, sparda was even more a user of magic
