    Localization in DMC5 that changed the context of lines

    DMC5's script(Its like a script, as in a real script not a game script lmao) is originally written in Japanese and then localized with a few changes in translation either by the localizers or the VAs themselves(Dante's VA, Reuben speaks Japanese and he has taken liberties since DMC3).

    There is quite a lot of localization changes in DMC5 and here is one in particular.

    When he talks to Nero, Dante says "I need to stop him and that's all that matter" but in the JP script he says "I'll handle him. He has been my prey/ catch/kill/game/target from the start after all." which in context sounds a lot more feral and aggressive compared to the line we got in english.

    There's a lot to this like in the Vergil fights specially when Dante and Vergil talks about Nero. Some are really minor changes but they do change the context abit.

    Like the part where Dante says "You cut off your son's arm for this" which can sound like "Yeah all that and you still didn't power up much!" but in the JP script it kinda translate to "You cut off your son's arm! What the fuck!" which sounds more like Dante chastising Vergil for doing something so terrible. Vergil's reply in english was "My son means nothing to me!" but in the JP script he says something like "Son? Is that something I should know?" which kinda says "Son? Whatever the hell do you mean! or What the hell are you talking about?"

    This is huge. In the english line that we got, Vergil gives the impression that he doesn't care about Nero being his son. However in the orig JP script it implies he didn't even know that he had a son. Of course later on Vergil does say "Nero... is my son?" which implies this but hearing Vergil say that his son means nothing to him still gives a different impression rather than what was originally intended.

    I suggest ya'll follow Hikaru_Mitsuki in twitter for more information. That account compares differences between the JP subs and dubs to the English lines we got. There's more to compare and they do a very good explaining it.
