Vergil combo with World of V

    Posted: 04 Dec 2020 09:59 AM PST

Call me weird, but I think that Mission 13 (Three Warriors) in DMC 5 is one of the coolest missions in all of DMC.

    Posted: 04 Dec 2020 01:11 PM PST

It's not specifically the level itself that is cool, but the fact that you can have all 3 protagonists fighting demons at the same time. It makes me feel so cool when I'm just mowing down demons together with everyone else and they're talking to each other.

It really makes me hope that if a future DMC game comes out that we get true co-op. It would be incredible to be able to play as Dante AND Vergil on a mission. That would be the coolest thing.

Today I learned an age old lesson.

    Posted: 04 Dec 2020 03:30 PM PST

Grew up never playing a single game until a couple years ago when I bought my PS4 and got super into this series. A couple weeks ago I bought the HD collection to see what the nostalgia was about and fell in love. Today I accidentally saved over my DMC3SE file with a brand new Vergil.

I feel like I've experienced something long overdue, something many have in their childhoods. That being said, I feel a little closer to the community now. Time to start fresh!

A complete noob's thoughts on DMC5: Final Major Update

    Posted: 04 Dec 2020 05:24 PM PST

As you can probably guess from the post title, I have now completed my first-ever playthrough of a DMC game. This time, I played from Mission 13 all the way to the end. You can find the previous update here.

    • Never using auto-assist anymore. Sure, it might've helped me in a few fights, but I just want to get better and try different things by myself from now on.

    • I rebound Griffon/gun and Devil Breakers for V/Nero, respectively, to the triggers like people recommended me to on my last post, and it definitely made it much easier for me to perform simultaneous attacks and chain combos. Although it did result in quite a few Breakers being broken away accidentally as I adjusted to the new controls, haha. I got Enemy Step on both Dante and Nero too, but I don't think I made full use of it since I'm so inexperienced. That's something I'll have to work on.

    • I wanted to make the most of V's remaining time, so I chose to play him in Mission 13. That mission was a strange one: basically a lot of enemies to opt into fighting as well as no real boss. Think I might've fallen down a hole by accident as I was fighting...oops. Then it was time for Mission 14. Malphas' pocket dimension looked pretty cool, and I liked the detail they added of V getting winded if he ran around too much without his familiars in there. It was also fun to fight the trio of previous bosses as V, it made for some strategizing in terms of which of his familiars to free for each boss. I did Cavaliere with Shadow, then Goliath with Griffon, then Artemis with Nightmare, and it seemed to be easy enough in that order. But I know having Nightmare while fighting Goliath gets you a special finisher, so I'll definitely try that next time. After I defeated the bosses and I was heading to the end of the level, I realized where I was in the story, and that's when it hit me that this was V's last mission. Sad times. :( At least I finished off strong with him by getting S ranks on both of those missions.

    • I found Secret Mission 10, the one where you have to get to the goal on V without touching the ground, but after a few failed attempts I realized that it wouldn't be possible without the use of the Promotion ability to ride Nightmare, which I don't have. Guess I'll have to come back to that one.

    • I thought I was getting a bit better in general, but Missions 15 and 16 showed me that I'm still bad and have a long way to go. The retracting spikes in Mission 15 were the bane of my existence. I'm pretty bad at timing and jumping quests, so you can guess how that went for me. I lost so much health to those goddamn spikes, then I figured out that I could use Gerbera to get past the first set, and my friend who was watching me play told me I could use Ragtime to stop them, but by the time I did that, I'd already been through the wringer...having to get through the spikes and fight enemies was some kinda torture. Then I got to Malphas, and that chicken literally stomped my ass. Actually, I was super close to beating her without dying...we were both at a sliver of HP, but I ended up taking one hit more than she did and having to use a Gold Orb to finish her off. D-rank on that mission, yikes. I fared even worse against Cerberus in Mission 16 as Dante. In that boss battle, I ran into much of the same problem as I did in Mission 8 against Urizen: I got rekt if I got up close, but my gun attacks from afar barely tickled, which made for a slow fight in which I couldn't dodge properly and still took tons of damage as a result. Also Cerberus' lightning stream attack confused me cuz one time, it didn't look like it hit me when I was airborne, yet I still got hit. And it didn't help that I completely forgot to use my ultimate weapon, Sin Devil Trigger, in the entirety of that fight. x.x I think I got Cerberus down to only a little below half HP before I had to use a Gold Orb. Surprisingly though, I only got a C-rank on that mission, and frankly I expected worse. XD

    • Death Scissors were still a bit annoying, but I tried using Helter Skelter to break their scissors and then shooting them in the face like people recommended me to, and that helped immensely in dealing with them. I also remembered to use Break Away against Queen Empusas to escape their grapples. In terms of common enemies, those two plus probably Hellbats (I hate how they self-destruct and you get no Red Orbs from them if they do) and Nobodies gave me the most trouble.

    • Missions 17-20 gave me an easier time, which was a bit surprising since I didn't expect Urizen/Vergil in those missions to be easier bosses than Malphas/Cerberus. I remembered to use SDT against them, and I also made use of regular DT to recover health in battle as Dante. I S-ranked Mission 17 and didn't really struggle against Vergil as either Dante or Nero. In fact, I found the familiars to be the hardest boss within those missions simply cuz of how long it took to kill them (and I guess how bad I felt about doing it...RIP kitty, destruction golem and little chicken). I think I had an easier time as Dante than as Nero against Vergil since it was easier to keep my distance and combo, and the thing that tripped me up the most during those fights was Vergil's Judgment Cut End attack...is it avoidable? And if so, how would you go about avoiding it?

    • I know there are some Secret Missions and map stuff that I missed (sometimes I fell down holes or missed jumps on accident). I'm going to take my time trying to find all of them in my next playthrough with the use of guides.

    • I ended the game with Dante having level 4 on Gunslinger, which is my preferred style. I did try to use a bit more Swordmaster toward the end though, especially to make full use of Cerberus. I basically only used Trickster when I needed extra horizontal distance for jumps in levels. My favorite weapons of his are Devil Sword Dante and Ebony & Ivory for their reliability, Cerberus for its versatility and just how cool it is, and Cavaliere and the double Kalina Anns cuz of their big-boy damage and flashiness. I switched to Balrog on accident a few times, but I still haven't really explored it, and I didn't dare touch Dr. Faust with a ten-foot pole for fear of wasting all of my Red Orbs on account of being bad. Think I'll save the hat for when I actually have skill. XD

    • It was really cool how they let you play through the ending credits in accordance with the cutscenes. This was the first game I've played that allowed you to do that. Neat!

    • In terms of how enjoyable the playable characters are for me, my final ranking is V>Dante>Nero. This ranking also happens to correspond to how well I've done with them in general. The lowest mission rank I've gotten on V was a B, on Dante it was a C, and on Nero it was a D...several Ds in fact. I've also gotten several S-ranks on V, one S-rank on Dante and none on Nero. I think V's playstyle just instantly clicked with me, which I couldn't be happier about cuz he's my favorite character. Dante has the highest skill ceiling, but I found him easier to pick up than Nero if I just focused on one or two styles and a few reliable weapons. And Nero...yeah, I'll need to practice with him a whole lot more if I am to get comfortable with his playstyle. Just a bunch of his abilities I forget to use constantly, like Wire Snatch and Devil Breakers.

So overall, I really enjoyed my first playthrough of DMC5 and I'd definitely give the game a SSS ranking! There was tons of fun, style, and a little bit of frustration in some parts, but hey, what's a game without a healthy challenge? Playing through it, I could tell that there was a lot of love and effort put into it by the developers. I've downloaded and installed the Deluxe Edition-exclusive stuff, so I'll have that to look forward to on my next playthrough. Now I just need to git gud and work my way up to those trophies. I want to S-rank all of the missions on Human first before moving on to the next difficulty level cuz I feel that if I can't do that much, then I won't stand a chance on higher difficulties. Long road ahead, but hopefully I'll get there eventually. This is the last major update post of this kind that I'll make (at least concerning DMC5), though I might make some minor ones in the future if I have more to talk about or questions. Thank you to everyone who's read these posts or helped me out, and if you have any more tips for me going into my second playthrough, they'd be much appreciated as always! :)

    I hate the three-headed bitch from DMC3

    Posted: 04 Dec 2020 12:17 PM PST

I'm doing my DMD no damage run and I can grantee to you this is the only boss in the game that there's no 100% effective way to defeat without taking damage, it's pure based on luck.

Why? Because of that icicles drop attack when Cerberus is in "red mode", there's NO 100% effective strategy to avoid this attack. Even using Royalguard you can take damage from a last drop, if you use Trickster's Sky Star+Wall Ride you can get caught by a last icicles drop if you're unlucky, if you use the Cerberus Ice Age as well you can get caught by one last drop. You have to implore to him not spam this attack and finish the green-eyed head quickly.

Sorry, but I always hated this boss, he's not fun to fight, he have ridiculous hitboxes, the bite attack is totally unpredictable, you can't taunt him unless you are practically below him (WHY???), when he does the assault attack and you avoid it, Dante sometimes will be dragged inside Cerberus and teleported back and it's annoying and confusing, and seems to be based on luck if he will stagger or not, you have to hit his paws to that but isn't 100% granted he will fall even using a max DTE. But what truly bugs me is because there's no 100% granted way to defeat him without taking damage, if you get unlucky he will spam the icicles drop and you'll be caught anytime.

I hate how a lot of players gave up this wonderful game because of that broken boss fight, he's the hardest boss for a new playthrough imo (not counting Vergil and Arkham) because he deal too much damage and you have so low health at the beginning and have scarce resources to deal with him. And your reward? The worst weapon in the game. It's not a bad weapon, but Rebellion, Nevan, Beowulf and A&R are far better.

Fighting him with Vergil is even more disgusting on DMD, but let's save it for another time.

king cerberus bug where he keeps doing the ice rain forever until the fight ends (SRY for the 1 fps it was cause i accidently cancled the rendering while the obs said stopping recording and because of my stupidity it was on 1 fps but hey at least u can clearly see that bug in action)

i don't if has been done before but if doomslayer made it to the of dmc would he team up or fight against nero dante

    Posted: 04 Dec 2020 05:46 PM PST

doomslayer is a much more serious adversary the question is would he be ally and put up with dante silliness although imagine his arsenal mostly ranged but if they fought who would win but nero and vergil are seriousness although would they see him as friend or foe but if he fought them who would win thoughts

PSA for 5SE: Vergil can do Quadruple S at any style rank

    Posted: 04 Dec 2020 03:10 PM PST

Have been messing around with Vergil. About to finish up DMD with all S ranks and its been a cakewalk with Vergils SDT spam. For some reason you have enough time to get out a few high powered SDT moves and change back without using any bar. It can be especially useful when fighting annoying enemies but you don't want to use the big room clear moves.

So far the best uses I've found are using stinger right as you pop SDT. There should be enough time to get off 2 stingers, sometimes 3, before you have to change back.

Another good one with Force edge is round trip. Charge up and then release right as you pop SDT and force edge should spin much faster.

Vergil also has SDT specific ending hits with Beowulf. If you pop off SDT before the last hit, you'll get the special ender without losing any SDT. The first combo ender is at the end of the standard combo, Vergil does a spin kick and says "you're finished"! The second combo ender is after the kick flurry, normally Vergil ends it with a stinger beowulf, but in SDT the stinger extends into a body check for big damage.
