I appreciate DMCV’s animation so much

Look, maybe it's a small thing, but seeing Nero walk differently after losing his arm is a really neat detail. So much of this RE Engine stuff is fantastic.

I have a question about the anime.

    Posted: 11 Aug 2020 06:40 PM PDT

In episode 11 when Sid is trying to summon Abigail he uses 5 items to summon him. He uses Modeus' skull, the wish demon's mask, the skull of the demon Dante slayed earlier in the episode and the amulet. What confuses me is the fifth item which is a huge skull with long straight horns that i can't make any connections to. It doesn't say on the wiki or any other place where that skull came from and its driving me nuts . If anyone knows please explain.(it's shown at 17:30)

    Thanks in advance.

First time beating DMC1 on the HD Collection: I feel like I just had a huge motivation check.

For research purposes, I spent 10 minutes straight fighting Vergil with dashes only

    Posted: 11 Aug 2020 04:39 AM PDT

About a month ago I did a little experiment during which I spent 20 minutes straight exclusively throwing roses at Vergil on Son of Sparda difficulty. Let me tell you, it was the best experience of my life: seeing Vergil fly up in the air and screaming in agony from getting his slapped with a rose was hilarious. This time around i decided to try out something different: i tried beating Vergil by using the start of Sparda's (I chose Sparda but you can use Rebellion or DSD too) Dance Macabre combo which just so happens to use Trickster's dash animation.

Now, sadly enough, I have to admit that the results weren't very interesting but I'll still go over them:

    1. It takes 4 dashes to knock away Vergil after he ends any of his attacks. Deals surprisingly a lot of damage, about as much as any regular attack would. Now, I know that it is technically an attack but the fact that Vergil starts growling and moaning from getting lightly bumped in the shoulder is definitely not something that I expected. Not as funny as him getting juggled by roses tho.

    2. Probably the most interesting discovery made during the experiment was the fact that apparently Dance Macabre's dash is extremely successful against Vergil's summoned swords. Seemingly 99% of the time I managed to parry the swords right back at Vergil. The other 1%, Dante would just dash right under the swords. In other words, if you use Dance Macabre's dash to parry the swords, it's gonna be a win-win situation because you'll never get damaged.

    3. My personal opinion, using roses is just as effective as using the dash, despite the dash dealing way more damage than the rose. One on hand, it took me only about 5-7 minutes to get Vergil to DT, which I was not able to achieve during my 20-minute-rose-only run. However, after having Vergil activate his DT, there wasn't much of an opportunity to deal a strike (a dash, i mean). Vergil very rarely performs any of Yamato combos or Stinger, which are the only ground attacks he uses during the second portion of the fight, and, obviously, Dance Macabre is a ground, close range combo, so I can't dash into him unless Vergil is in close proximity and grounded. The rose, however, is a projectile, so it's much easier to attack while staying at a safe distance away from the enemy. Another advantage the rose has is that you can deal a strike and then immediately proceed to block any attack using RG but in order to pull that off during the dash run I would have to constantly change styles from Swordmaster to RG or Trickster and back to Swordmaster.

In conclusion, I'd like to say that at first the dash does seem to be a much faster and easier tactic against Vergil than rose juggling, but not nearly as entertaining to watch. Moreover, it loses all and any advantages over rose juggling after entering second phase of the fight.

Vergil seemed to barely lose any health after activating DT at the 5-7 minute mark, after which I proceeded to try to escape from the range of JCE by running into a wall, failed and died. So, basically, the experiment ended prematurely.

Does anyone remember the DMC gritty reboot that we all agreed never existed

    Posted: 11 Aug 2020 06:23 PM PDT

As im replaying DMC 5, I just randomly started remembering playing the reboot and everyone's reaction to it. They're was sooooooo much hate on how they changed dante and basically everything about the series. I did like the fighting mechanics even if the plot was subpar, I found the game fun cause I thought of it as a spinoff and didn't take it serious. Does anyone else remember playing it?
