I don't think DMC 1 has aged nearly as badly as people say it has

    Posted: 27 Dec 2019 10:25 AM PST

I'll preface this by saying I'm a fairly new fan of DMC. I picked up the HD collection last year after DMC 5 was announced, and I've loved the series since, but I have no nostalgic bias towards any of the games.

Mechanically, 1 isn't nearly as complex as the games that came later, but it still offered awesome gameplay, an amazing atmosphere and a firm yet fair challenge. That this was one of the first (if not the first) hack n' slash games ever, makes it even more impressive to me how well it turned out. I also think out of all the games until 5, 1 had by far the most detailed and visually interesting environments. Like there's this one room you enter before the second fight with Phantom, and you're in it for about 5 seconds, but its packed with a crazy amount of detail.

Even though 3 is an amazing game in its own right, I actually prefer 1. I think 1 has by far the better enemy and boss designs. Where 3 has a bunch of extremely irritating and/or boring to fight enemies (the chess pieces, the Soul Eaters, the Dullahans and the Fallen) and bosses (Gigapede, Heart of Leviathan, Lady, Doppleganger and Arkham) almost every enemy and boss in DMC 1 was extremely fun for me to fight, to figure out how they worked and how best to approach them. The exceptions being both forms of Mundas, and the second Griffon fight, due to the tiny area you fight him in.

1 definitely had its share of issues, like the platforming, and the underwater sections, and the end where it turns into clunky Starfox, but overall, I had very little issue with its dated mechanics and found it to be easily my favorite in the series until 5 came out. I'll probably get some hate for this since I criticized 3 a bit, but I do still think its an amazing game, I just enjoyed 1 more.

What weapons were you hoping to see come back in 5, but didn't?

    Posted: 27 Dec 2019 06:28 PM PST

There are plenty of weapon favorites we all have that we wished could've made a comeback in 5, but sadly didn't. Personally, I would've loved to see Lucifer from 4 or Alastor from 1 to make a comeback. How about you guys?

    Been thinking about V lately.....

    Posted: 27 Dec 2019 06:21 PM PST

Now I'm not heavy into the combos I managed to finish Dante must die mode and bloody palace with super V and super Dante. I don't see much combos of V on here and I was wondering would V be a better character if you can switch from V to Shadow and Griffon like how Dante changes styles? Me personally I like the idea cause worrying about V while fighting was annoying I felt like I was more watching hahaha

V’s poetry into Vergil’s Concentration gauge

Since V's book that boosted his DT through poetry, when Vergil becomes playable again in DMC5, how about adding poetry into the Concentration gauge?

    Advice for DMC5

    Posted: 27 Dec 2019 06:58 PM PST

First timer to the franchise here. I just completed the game on Human and have unlocked Son of Sparda. I'm looking to replay and really master the combat and get max style on everything but I don't know if I should play Devil Hunter next (I probably should have gone with that from the beginning) or go straight to Son of Sparda. Or maybe start a whole new save and go from the start on Devil Hunter again? What would be the most rewarding experience in your eyes?

Brand new to the series, how many hours could I expect from V?.

    Posted: 27 Dec 2019 01:53 PM PST

Title. I'm seeing a lot of people pour 100+ into this. Why, I ask?. I mean, I've heard main story is quite short (15 hours), so what's the secret here?.
